2. Become a CASE associate

CASE (the Centre for Apologetic Scholarship and Education) incisively presents the Christian worldview to the community. It is an essential provider of Christian thinking for many and a means of encouraging Christians to apply their faith to all areas of life and as they participate in discussions about ethical, moral and current issues.

CASE associates benefit from and support the work of CASE. CASE associates receive four issues of Case—a high quality quarterly magazine with an academic flavour that addresses contemporary issues from a Christian perspective. Our most recent issues have been on ‘Communication, cyberspace and community’ (Issue #15) and ‘Seeking Happiness’ (Issue #14). CASE associates also receive discounts/free entry to CASE events.

There are three types of CASE associate subscription:

  • Become a regular CASE associate ($55 for one year).
  • Become an instiution CASE associate ($110 for one year).
  • Become a CASE student associate for a special discount rate of $35/year simply provide details of your course and place of study on our subscription form (below). Tell the students at your church, university, Bible college etc. about this great opportunity to be stretched in their Christian thinking as they grow in knowledge of their chosen field of study.

3. The Faithful Writer Conference

Following the success of our first Faithful Writer Conference in 2007 we will (in conjunction with Matthias Media) be holding a second conference on Saturday 2nd August 2008. The Faithful Writer Conference is a one-day conference for Christians interested in exploring the ministry potential of writing, paid or otherwise.

Our special guest speaker is Mark Tredinnick, poet, essayist, writing teacher and author of, among other things, The Little Red Writing Book.

There will be seminars on poetry, writing for children, writing for sceptics, the art of the essay and writers and editors

4. God and the Artist: human creativity in theological perspective

Sound intriguing?

We are looking forward to hearing Trevor Hart (Professor of Divinity & Director of the Institute for Theology and the Arts at the University of St Andrews, Scotland) speak on this topic at our annual New College Lectures from 2-4 September.

Professor Hart’s three lectures will cover the following topics:

1. ‘The lunatic, the lover and the poet’: divine copyright and the dangers of ‘strong imagination’

2. The ‘heart of man’ and the ‘mind of the maker’: Tolkien and Sayers on imagination and human artistry

3. Giveness, grace and gratitude: creation, artistry and eucharist

5. CASE quarterly seminar

We run regular quarterly seminars that take up the theme of the current Case magazine. Our next quarterly seminar will be on the topic of ‘Communication, cyberspace and community’. The seminar presenters will be David Horne and Trevor Cairney who have both written for Case #15. There will be opportunities for discussion and questions.

We have changed the date and time for this seminar from what was previously advertised. So, please note the new details:

Date: Monday 22 September

Time: 7-9pm

Location: New College, Anzac Parade, Kensington

Cost: Free for CASE associates, $10 for non-associates

RSVP: Monday 15 September to 02 9381 1909 or case@newcollege.unsw.edu.au

6. ISCAST meetings with Richard Collings in Sydney

The Institute for the Study of Christianity in an Age of Science and Technology (www.iscast.org.au) is hosting international speaker, Professor Richard Colling, who will be giving lectures on science and faith in Sydney in July this year. A published author he has been particularly keen to demonstrate that modern scientific discovery and the Christian faith are compatible. Download the invite flyer here.
